Kohl’s is hiring for the upcoming holiday season and interested applicants can sign up to interview by phone. The department store retail chain is holding a one-day national hiring event with health and safety in mind on Oct. 3.
Both store and distribution center positions will be available. Store positions include retail sales associates who assist customers directly and operations associates who stock and organize the store. At distribution centers, Kohl’s will be hiring material handlers who pack and ship merchandise nationwide.
A spokesperson told The Penny Hoarder that Kohl’s is looking to hire about the same amount of workers as in previous years. In 2018 and 2019, they hired 90,000 extra workers. In 2019, the company hosted its first national hiring event, saying that it wanted about 5,000 of its seasonal workers to come out of that day.
Safe And Healthy Process
The company has made seasonal hiring entirely virtual this year for increased ease and safety. It has invested in procedures to maintain a safe and healthy work and shopping environment for employees and customers, such as curbside pickup.
The new measures include reduced operating hours, special hours for at-risk individuals, an associate greeter at a single entrance, touchless payment, closed fitting rooms and barriers at registers.
For its workers, this also includes mandatory wellness checks before shifts, additional health and safety training, rearranged breakrooms and offices and required mask- and glove-wearing.

The interview will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. local time on Saturday, October 3., during Kohl’s virtual national hiring event. Some applicants who qualify will receive a job offer the same day.

In a statement, Kohl’s chief people officer Marc Chini said that the retailer expects more online shopping this season than ever before. It is staffing to support its digital fulfillment efforts as well as its brick-and-mortar ones.
