Rideshare app Lyft is pausing its carpool option for now and unveiling a new program called Wait and Save. Lyft riders can now opt for a longer wait time to be picked up and pay a lower fee.
The company says the changes are due to COVID-19.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, Lyft allowed customers to share rides with other people for a cheaper fare. But with distancing rules, the company has temporarily nixed that program.
Lyft says the new Wait and Save option is rolling out in 90 cities this week. The company's spokesman said the wait times and prices of the rides will vary by time of day and area.
