Unemployment went "down" for the month of May, still over 18%

The California unemployment rate rose to 16.3% in May, the highest level since the Great Depression. And things in Kern County aren't any better.

According to numbers released Friday, the unemployment rate in Kern County was 18.3 percent in May 2020, down from a revised 18.7 percent in April 2020, and above the year-ago estimate of 7.3 percent.

This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 13.0 percent for the nation during the same period.
