7 Arrested In Connection With Shooting At Hookah Lounge

On April 8 at 3:49 a.m., Bakersfield Police received reports of shots fired at the Hookah Lounge, which is located at 5482 California Ave.

Upon arrival, officers located several shell casings in the parking lot. Officers also found several businesses and vehicles that had damaged windows from gunshots.

No victims were located at the scene.

Police said shortly after the call was received, officers stopped a car in the 1300 block of Chester Ave.

Inside the car, officers found an adult male, Carl Bermudez, 26, of Bakersfield, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

Officers said they learned he had been shot at the Hookah Lounge on California Ave.

Police said Bermudez was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

Following tips from the public, investigators arrested Thomas Mojica Palenzuela, 20; Frankie Baltierra, 30; Walter Sterling Robinson Jr., 29; Kari Elena Rodriguez, 24; Jennifer Reyes, 21 and James Edward Rubio, 20, on charges of attempted murder, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.

Reyes was additionally arrested on charges of being an accessory and Palenzuela was additionally arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm.

Also arrested in connection to the case was Reynaldo Gonzalez Mendez Jr., 29, on charges of accessory, participation in a criminal street gang and witness intimidation.

All suspects were booked into the Kern County Jail.
