BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A woman is in critical condition following a crash in East Bakersfield Thursday, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

BPD said officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Niles Street and Owens Street around 2:30 p.m. When officers arrived they discovered a Chevrolet pick-up truck was southbound on Owens Street and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Niles Street. The pick-up collided with a Nissan Sentra traveling westbound on Niles Street.

The woman driving the Nissan and her adult male passenger were taken to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries. The man driving the pick-up was not injured.

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, BPD said the male passenger was in stable condition and the woman was in critical condition.

BPD said it does not appear alcohol, drugs, or speed were factors in this collision.
