Father Of Girl Who Went Missing Arrested After Standoff

8-Year-Old Found 9 Miles From Home In Dirt Field

The father of an 8-year-old girl he reported missing Wednesday has been arrested and charged with several crimes against her.

The father, Ray Coriell, 29, sent text messages to his wife, the girl's step-mother, about feeling distraught and despondent about how his little girl went missing Wednesday and barricaded himself in the home on the 600 block Loch Lomand Drive Thursday aftenoon, according to the KCSD.

The Kern County Sheriff's Department and SWAT team blocked off the street as well as surrounding streets as a precaution.


  • Officials with KCSD said they know there were weapons in the home because a sweep was conducted Wednesday while deputies were looking for the little girl.

    The standoff ended around 7 p.m. when the KCSD said Ray Coriell surrendered.

    Ray Coriell was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on the warrant for kidnapping with rape, kidnapping with intent to commit rape, sexual intercourse with a child under ten years of age, and attempted murder, according to the KCSD.

    Ray Coriell was booked into the Kern County Jail. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.

    Ray Coriell reported his daughter missing Wednesday around 4 a.m.

    The little girl was found around 11 a.m. when construction crews saw her wandering barefoot with a bruise on her face nine miles away on Eucalyptus Drive in East Bakersfield.

    KCSD said she displaye signs of trauma.

    She was taken to Kern Medical Center for treatment and observation.
