2 Bakersfield men stuck in Live Oak Cogen tank, leaves one dead

One man breaks leg, one dies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Fire Department retrieved a man with a broken leg from a tank and transported him to a local hospital and confirmed that one man died in a plant accident on Wednesday.

Early Wednesday morning, the fire department confirmed that two men were stuck in a 15-foot tall tank at the Live Oak Cogen plant on South Granite Road.

The two men were contractors cleaning the tank after a welding project was completed.  Officials said that during the clean up, something went wrong.

The fire department did an aerial operation, where they sent a fireman down on a ladder to pull victims up in a rescue mission.

Officials are still unsure of exact events regarding the floor.  Cal-OSHA and the coroner arrived and pronounced 54-year-old Barry Snelson dead at the scene.

The other man was removed from the container and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
