The Arvin City Council passed a new ordinance on oil and gas restrictions in the city limits on Tuesday.

The ordinance passed by a 3-0 vote after two members of the council were absent for Tuesday's city council meeting. Arvin has been looking to place restrictions on where oil wells can be drilled since ordinances have not been updated since the 1960s.

The move comes after Arvin Mayor Jose Gurrola took a stance against oil and gas companies back in June.
