A 20 year old Wasco woman killed in head-on collision identified

Update (Monday, November 28th, 2 p.m.) : The Kern County Coroner has identified the woman as 20-year-old Karina Lopez Ramirez from Wasco. The cause of death is still pending.

 

 

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20 year old woman from Wasco died in a head-on collision near Lost Hills overnight.

CHP officials said around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning they responded to Highway 46 and Main Drain Rd for a crash. 

Officials said David Hughes, 53, from Atascadero was driving westbound on Highway 46 east of Main Drain Rd at an unknown speed when for unknown reasons he drifted to the left and into the eastbound lane directly into the path of a another vehicle driven by a 20 year old Wasco woman.

Emergency personal arrived and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. 

Hughes was taken to Kern Medical with major injuries. 

Officers said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. 

The collision is still under investigation. 

The identity of the woman who died in the crash will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
