BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — It's considered the single biggest day of fundraising in Kern County. Give Big Kern kicked off Tuesday and organizations throughout the county did their part to give back.
Marley's Mutts hosted their Miles of Smiles for Give Big Kern on Tuesday morning. The shelter's rescue pups took a trip on the Drool Bus around Kern County while raising money for the shelter and spotlighting other local organizations
CASA of Kern County came up with a Cinco De Mayo day auction. The group said not even social distancing would stop them from attempting to get their $50,000 fundraising goal.
In celebration of Cinco de Mayo and Give Big Kern, the leadership team from the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County passed out free tacos in front of the Center. The center said it was able to do so, thanks to the donation from Wonderful Halos to cover the cost of the tacos.
Kern Dance Alliance, with funding support from Valley Strong Credit Union, hosted a “JUST DANCE: Digital Pop-Up Series,” free live streaming dance with local dance instructors, to celebrate Give Big Kern.
The Mission at Kern County celebrated Give Big Kern with “Drive Thru and Dine Cinco de Mayo Fajita Meals”, cooked by Chef Lino’s Grill. Sales went to benefit The Mission at Kern.
Give Big Kern conitinues on Wednesday. During the fundraising period, the public can logon to the Give Big Kern website and search for or go through a list of local non-profit organizations. Anyone can either give a monetary donation or sign up to work voluntary hours.
