BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Fox Theater "Marquee Inspire" program is proud to announced its completely booked for the rest of May and June, and is now accepting submissions for July 1-14.

The Fox Theater had to cancel all events in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, causing a hefty economic toll on the facility. So decide to launch a new campaign that will allow the community to help out.

"Marquee Inspired" allows residents to pay $200 to write a message on its iconic marquee for 24 hours. For an extra $100 the theater's neon lights will flash flash with your message at sunset.

Fox Theater officials say they encourage the public to have fun with the messages, but anything deemed inappropriate will not be accepted.

If you want to post a message on the marquee, email your message to info@thebakersfieldfox.com with the subject line "MARQUEE INSPIRED."

The Fox has also joined the National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA, a group of over 1,000 venues joining together to ask congressional leaders for aid. In a letter addressed to Congress, NIVA says for the first time in history, there is a legitimate fear for their collective existence.

Niva asks the small business administration to offer more help for businesses like theirs, as well as consider increasing the PPP loan cap and extending it until all affected businesses can resume normal operations.
