Roxanne Routh was named emergency medical dispatcher of year. Routh has been working as a fire dispatcher at Kern County’s Emergency Communications Center for the past six years. Last year, she responded to nearly 11,000 calls.
"I was really shocked because all of my co-workers here do an excellent job, I'm very honored", said Routh.
Routh was honored with the award during National Public Safety Telecommunicator week. I't s a week that aims to highlight the important work of emergency dispatchers. Routh works with three other dispatchers at the center, responding to medical and fire calls. All dispatchers go through six months of intensive training. Since January, the center took 92,000 emergency calls covering Kern County.
