Man who attempted to extort a former CSUB professor has taken a plea deal

The man who attempted to extort a former Cal State Bakersfield professor who had child porn on his laptop has taken a plea deal.

According to authorities, Francois Gariepy stole a laptop belonging to Theodore Ishida and attempted to extort Ishida for $60 thousand saying that he would go to authorities and reveal that there was child porn on the laptop.

Ishida reported Gariepy to authorities and after an investigation found Ishida had hundreds of illicit pictures of children on his laptop. 

On Monday, Gariepy pleaded no contest to multiple felonies, including attempted extortion.

10 other charges were dismissed.

Ishida, who has taken a plea deal for possession of material depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct is set to be sentenced in September.
