Roadrunners fall to Matadors, 0-4

The Roadrunners' soccer team fell to CSU Northridge Sunday night, 4-0. 

Many fans showed up for the Roadrunners' first match of the season against the Matadors. CSUB even giving out free cups, stickers and pencils to the first 100 fans to celebrate the new school year. 

But super fan like Gabriel Ablin was especially excited about the start of the soccer season. 

“I say this every year and it always turns out to be true. I am excited about every upcoming season. I think that the team gets better and better every year. I love to come to the games. I love to watch the team play and every year the coaching staff and the team improve dramatically, and I think its very impressive. I mean what more can you ask for coming to a soccer game,” said Ablin. 

The soccer team is returning 13 players and have recruited 11 new players. 

Richie Grant is also returning for his fourth season. 

Last season the 'Runners finish conference play 5-4-1. 

As for their first game of the season, the 'Runners collected its first loss.

The team battled hard in the first half, leading in possessions. But, come three minutes into the second half, a hand-ball by a 'Runner, leading to a penalty kick and point. 

In the last ten minutes of the game, the Matadors finished with three more goals to close out the game, 0-4.

The next game will be on August 16 at UC Irvine and then the 'Runners will kickoff a four game home-stand, starting with Bethesda University.
