CSU Bakersfield hit the road this morning, taking a roadtrip to Taft, Delano, Shafter and Bakersfield for its second annual Caravan Day.

The 'Runners packed the bus with staff, coaches, alumni and students from CSUB. The cheer squad and even Rowdy came too, showing some love to future Roadrunners as they tossed shirts and performed for the crowd.

President Lynnette Zelezny also took part in the Caravan for the first time.

“We’re here today just to bring a lot of energy and spirit. We have our coaches here today. And we want to talk about the great academic achievement of our students, our scholar athletes and talk about the many accolades at CSUB,” said Zelezny.

Dr. Zelezny, the basketball coach, Rod Barnes, baseball coach, Jeremy Beard and the golf director, Megan Thomason spoke to the crowds as they tried to recruit students, inform people and connect with the community outside of Bakersfield.

“We're trying to get out to the community, to touch them, we're always inviting them to games, activities, seminars, and to come to the university. We wanted to come out to them and come to their place, talk with them and have a great time," said Barnes.

All in hopes that these visits will help these communities get involved and visit, too.

"Obviously we're in Bakersfield, but we represent Kern County and we hopefully want to have enough success that they feel that they're at home when they come to our campus," said Barnes.

The athletics department also wanted to let the communities know of the big changes coming to the department as well as rally together supporters to help take them to the next level.

“We're really at a grass-root stage in our department now and as a university and we're building up on the foundation that's been set and we need community support to get behind us, to take us to the next level and take that next step," said Thomason.

The caravan ended in Bakersfield at Lengthwise in the Marketplace. And at every location they provided food, drink and at Lengthwise, beer.
