Bakersfield Police spent several hours investigating a deadly shooting that left one man dead. Family members say he died right in front of his home.
Bakersfield Police were investigating a deadly shooting Sunday morning in a quiet south Bakersfield neighborhood.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Police Department has announced the arrest of Javier Saucedo who was wanted in connection to the deadly shooting in south Bakersfield over the weekend.
Police said an arrest warrant had been issued and Saucedo turned himself him Tuesday evening.
According to police officers responded to shots fired in the area of Ginger Snap Lane and Star Gaze Drive around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.
When officers arrived they found a man in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, the Kern County Coroner's Office identified the victim of the shooting as Edgar Eduardo Barajas Ruiz, 34.
Police said their investigation determined Ruiz had been in an altercation earlier Saturday evening.
Police also said they believed the victim and suspect are acquaintances.
BPD said they issued an arrest warrant for Saucedo for murder, weapons violations, and shooting from a moving vehicle.
On Monday, Saucedo's attorney contacted Bakersfield Police to facilitate Saucedo's safe surrender, according to BPD.
On Tuesday night around 5:20 p.m. police said Saucedo went to BPD headquarters in downtown Bakersfield where he was taken into custody without incident and booked for his warrant.
