A record number of STDs were reported in California in 2017, according to a new reportfrom the California Department of Public Health.
More than 300,000 cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and early syphilis were reported in the state, and that's a 45% increase compared to five years ago. There were also 30 stillbirths due to congenital syphilis reported in California in 2017, the highest number reported since 1995.
In Kern County, 2017 STD rates are up from 2016 rates for chlamydia, gonorrhea, early syphilis and congenital syphilis.
