Let's take a look at Proposition 16, which aims to clear a path for California to adopt Affirmative Action practices, something voters blocked 24 years ago.

Prop 16 would allow government offices and public universities to consider race, gender, color, ethnicity, and national origin with hiring, admissions, training, and promotion decisions. It would repeal Prop 209 passed in 1996, which said government and public institutions could not discriminate based on those factors.

Supporters say Prop 16 expands the equal opportunity to all Californians, fighting systemic racism and wage discrimination for people of color and women.

Those opposed say considering race and other factors in these processes is a form of discrimination against those who don't benefit.
