The Kern High School District's chief of police has been placed on paid administrative leave, district officials said Thursday.
Chief Joseph Lopeteguy was placed on leave for undisclosed reasons on May 13, according to KHSD Public Information and Communications Manager Lisa Krch.
Lt. Jerald Wyatt is the current acting KHSD police chief.
Lopeteguy has been in his position for less than one year, after being appointed to the role in October 2015.
According to the district's website, Chief Lopeteguy was born and raised in Kern County and graduated from Shafter High School. He has worked for the district since 2008, when he was hired as a police officer.
