and last updated

Discover Camp is back at the Kern County Museum this summer. Kids ages 5 to 10 can register for the whole summer or just for the weekly camps.

The theme differs each week between art and engineering topics, but this week's theme is archeology. "Kids will dig up some fun and learn about dinosaurs while identifying fossils and stretch their prehistoric knowledge. Kids will channel their inner Indiana Jones and unearth the exciting journey from field to lab. They will learn about people who once lived in this area."

Upcoming weeks include:

  • Week 7 Master Makers Engineer: July 15 -July 19
  • Week 8 Master Makers Engineers 2: July 22 -July 26
  • Week 9 Arts Explosion: July 29 -August 2
  • Week 10 Arts Explosion 2: August 5 -August 9

The museum also focuses on teaching students about the history of Kern County.

"I just think we have a good time. We have a positive staff and we work on the positive behavioral intervention system so were getting them motivated in the morning with yoga and they roll through stations its alot of fun for them," explains Camp Coordinator Shannon Fowler. To register, you can visit the Kern County Museum website.
