TAFT, CA. — 9-year-old Caydence Spears is on a mission to help people in her community.
She started a blessing box on the corner of North Lincoln and Birch Streets in Taft.
“I’ve seen a lot of people who don’t have homes, that don’t have that much money don’t have family that they can live with right now. Just in really tough situations," said Spears.
Her empathy for others is what inspired her to start the blessing box stocked with clothes, food and hygiene products.
Since setting up Wednesday, Spears said people have already donated items and people have taken things they needed.
At just 9 years old, Spears is an example of compassion and humanity. She hopes others follow her lead.
“Just this little thing has helped so many people, so I want them to take away that being kind, you don’t have to do such a big thing, you can just do the little things that really matter," said Spears.
