Fire destroys trailer home

Two apartment complexes were evacuated after a trailer home caught fire in the back yard of a residence in central Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Fire Department responded just after 2:00pm.

The man who lives next door, Bill Sudduth, said he walked out, saw the flames and jumped into action.

"I heard the neighbor screaming fire and he his hose out. He was trying to put out the fire, so I told my oldest son to get the keys and get the vehicles out of the driveway," Sudduth said. "I grabbed my hose from the backyard and started spaying over the fence and soaking my wood fence down."

Fire officials said no one was injured, but the fire brought down power lines.

PG&E reports only one customer was without power and was expected to return power within a couple hours.

Investigators are now trying to determine how the fire started.
