It's been one month since Kern County initiated a mobile testing program for farmworkers.
The county's 4th District partnered with the California Farmworkers Foundation to facilitate more tests in this underserved population. The new mobile testing unit launched in Delano on July 28th to provide farmworkers a more accessible opportunity to get tested.
"Sometimes they're just too busy working to get a test. They might be unwilling to go to a doctor's office and testing location because they have some type of fear of putting their name on paper. a large number are undocumented," explained Sal Moretti of Kern County District 4.
Health officials say in the last 17 days 147 individuals have been tested thru the mobile testing program but they can't say how many tested positive. Nearly 33 % of all cases locally are Hispanic or Latino.
