BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A 22-year-old man is facing felony charges of kidnapping and rape after police said he lured a woman into his car when she was walking in downtown Bakersfield Saturday night.

According to Bakersfield Police, the woman left The Padre Hotel following an argument with her boyfriend. That's when Hernan Uriel Davalos pulled up beside her and persuaded her to get in his car. Once she was in his car, police said Davalos drove her to a remote location off Panama Lane where he sexually assaulted her.

Officials said that following the sexual assault, Davalos then drove the victim home. The victim stated that she didn't want Davalos to know where she lived, so she had him drop her "a few houses over" from her residence.

That was when Davalos asked her out on a date and requested her phone number. She agreed to provide her number because she felt that if he called, police would be able to locate him.

Davalos later contacted the victim through WhatsApp, a messaging application. Authorities later used that information to locate Davalos with the help of the victim.

Davalos was later arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape. He pled not guilty in court on October 9th.
