Kern County Sheriff's Office arrests one suspect in equipment theft, search for second continues

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, two suspects broke into a business in the 4500 block of State Road on December 5th and stole welding equipment worth about $2,000. The business was open at the time of the theft.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, two suspects broke into a business in the 4500 block of State Road on December 5th and stole welding equipment worth about $2,000. The business was open at the time of the theft.

Two days later on December 7th, deputies located the suspect's vehicle in the 300 block of Hughes Lane and arrested 39-year-old Daniel Martinez on numerous charges including burglary and meth possession. Martinez matched surveillance footage from the business where the crime took place.

Authorities are still searching for the second suspect in the theft, 47-year-old David Newkirk.
