9/11 tributes happening locally today:

Bakersfield High School is hosting a special tribute. Starting before 8 a.m. the color guard will post the colors at half-staff. Principal Reese will also give a tribute. ROTC students will then be marching for the rest of the day, which is similar to the march at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C.

Several other schools including South High School will also be participating in tributes today.

If you would like to give back today, Houchin Community Blood Bank is holding their "Week of Remembrance Blood Drive" until Friday. All donors are encouraged to donate a pint of blood or other needed blood products in honor of first responders.

The donations can be made at the Bakersfield donation centers on Truxtun Ave. and Bolthouse Drive. There are also two mobile drives at the Kern County Fire Department's Training Facility and the Bakersfield Fire Department's 9/11 Memorial.

Bakersfield Harley Davidson will also hold the "9/11 Support Our Troops Memorial Run." The bikes will be outside of Harley Davidson at 3 p.m. and riders will leave around 6:30 p.m. The will ride to Minter Field Air Museum to hear stories from two of America's current conflict veterans. This is hosted by Armed Forces Support Foundation.
