TEHACHAPI, Calif. — Vintage airplanes and gliders are showing off their wings at the Mountain Valley Airport Memorial Day Weekend. Sunday is the second and final day of the annual regatta, in which a dozen sets of wings will be on display.
Skylark North Glider Flight School puts on the annual event. On Saturday pilots were able to time the weather to show what their planes and gliders could do in the skies about Tehachapi. On Sunday pilots expect to be grounded due to inclement weather. However, they plan on having the hangers open for anyone to come see them close up. The regatte will be capped off with a barbecue potluck.
Glider pilot Maia McDaniel, hopes this weekend's event and the beautiful gliders will attract more people to become pilots and will increase their fliers club.
