The Bakersfield College indoor drumline is a 33 member group competing locally and now they've qualified to play at the Winter Guard International Percussion World Championships.
"It's probably one of the biggest dreams I've ever had to go to world championships", said drumline player Adam Sanchez.
The group missed out on championships last year due to a lack of funding but this year they are hoping community support will change that.
"It's really tough because of the structure of the activity for us to go out and represent what we have going on here on that competitive level, nationally, it's just a fundraising thing", said Bakersfield College drumline director Tim Heasley.
Coaches and players spend more than 20 hours every weekend in rehearsals. The group says they need to raise $30,000 to be able to travel to Dayton, Ohio in April.
The journey to championships has taken a lot of dedication and sacrifice with coaches and players spending more than 20 hours in rehearsals every weekend.
"Fore students at Bakersfield College to have something on their plate that keeps them engaged and connected to their campus sometimes that's a huge difference between success and failure at a college level", said Heasley.
The drumline has on ongoing sponsorship campaign in addition to members selling chocolate to raise money. If you would like to donate, you can visit their website:bcdrumline.org/sponsorship-campaign.
