Bakersfield couple arrested on felony auto fraud charges

Posted

A Bakersfield couple was arrested on felony auto fraud charges.

Parneet Kaur, 34, and her husband Sarabjit Singh, 46 surrendered to authorities and were charged with multiple felony counts for allegedly conspiring to defraud their insurance company into paying for a collision that was not covered under their policy.

Kaur and Singh were involved in a September 2016 crash that caused damage to the other driver's vehicle and totaled their 2012 Toyota Camry.

Singh originally reported that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not covered as a driver on the auto policy. He then changed his statement and claimed his wife, Kaur, was actually driving. As a result, Progressive Insurance paid over $11,600 to the lienholder.

Singh turned himself in to Kern County Jail on Friday, Oct. 7 and made bail the same day. Kaur turned herself in on Monday and was still in custody as of Monday afternoon.
