The Bakersfield Dome is no more as the historic building, which was built in the 1940s as a boxing arena in Central Bakersfield has now been completely demolished.

The Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission said in September that the Dome should not be demolished because it is a piece of history.

The letter, which was sent on August 30, said that the Dome's architecture and history has significantly impacted Bakersfield history and culture. The Commission urged owners to consider reusing the space and keeping the architecture intact instead of demolishing the building. 

The Dome was sold to Geo Group in early July. The space will be used to expand the Mesa Verde ICE processing center.
