The 2016 State of the City Luncheon Tuesday focused on Mayor Harvey L. Hall as his 16 years in office will be coming to an end in January. Here are five takeaways from local government officials and community members at today's event:
1. Hall contributed more than 21 scholarships from his paycheck this year, totaling around $200,000. Hall also recognized the students who received these scholarships. Steve Murray
2. Bakersfield College will soon offer a bachelor’s degree in industrial automation. The college is one of 15 community colleges selected to offer this degree, according to Kern Community College District Chancellor Sandra Serrano.
3. Hall served with 15 council members during his time in office.
4. Hall donated three ambulances to a city in Mexico earlier this month through his company Hall Ambulance Service Inc.
5. Mayor Harvey L. Hall chose an orange suit to wear to his last State of the City as mayor, stating, "You have the best dressed mayor ever".
