BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department shared its monthly gang statistic reports for the months of October and November 2018. In the report, numbers show that there was a significant increase between the number of arrests in the two months.
In October, there were 53 felony arrests, 55 misdemeanor arrests, 15 guns seized and 41 warrants.
In the following month there was a jump in all four of the categories, the largest leaps being in felony arrests with 77 in November and 83 misdemeanor arrests.
What is interesting to note however is that in the past three years, the number of arrests in the month of November have steadily decreased.
While 2018 may have reported 12 more homicides than the previous year, BPD's year to date gang violence index showed that there has been a small decrease in the number of shootings that have taken place between 2017 and 2018, with the number of gang related shootings dropping from 49 to 47.
What has increased, is the number of homicides as noted before. According to BPD's reports, from 2017 to 2018, the number of homicides in November increased from 10 to 13.
Bakersfield police also reported statistics on the number of shootings each year, month by month and it shows that the month in which the most shootings happened in 2018 is September, and the lowest were November and February with 1 each.
According to the Special Enforcement Unit Statistics, from January to November 2018, a total of 320 felony arrests were made, 134 misdemeanor arrests were made 181 guns were seized.
