Today's snow melt may re-freeze overnight

Posted

It was a cold, wet and icy evening yesterday in Tehachapi and more winter weather is expected tonight.

Sophia Konstantanova is traveling from Las Vegas to Northern California today and she said this weather is very bizarre.

“The weather is very strange, unusual, very cold, colder than I ever remembered."

The California Highway Patrol reported several traffic accidents and said some roads were closed because they were completely covered in ice.

We are right in the middle of El Niño season and some travelers are certain El Niño is the cause of this wintry mix.

“It’s very cold, and snowy, kind of like blizzard conditions. They all blame this on El Nino,” said Wendy Boring, traveling from New Mexico to Monterey, California.

Andria Garbiso and her family are traveling from Las Vegas to Stockton, California. Although the snow capped mountains are pretty to see, they don't mind missing out on the icy roads.

“We were happy to see that there was snow on the mountains but not on the road itself,” Garbiso said.

If you intend to drive in snow or icy conditions – make sure you check your brakes, windshield wipers, and defroster.
