Bobby Perigo, the face of the Delano sex scandal, was back in court today with a new attorney.
Perigo had been represented by the public defender's office since his arrest on March 24th. Today, David Torres was formally appointed as Perigo's new attorney.
Due to the change, Perigo will not appear in court again until next month.
The court appearance comes a day after the Delano Joint Union High School District (DJUHSD) released a statement clarifying the hiring process due to questions that have arisen around Perigo's hiring in 2010.
Perigo was investigated for having sexual relations with two minors as a member of the California Highway Patrol in 2009. He was not arrested for either incident.
DJUHSD said that because there was not an arrest, no note of an investigation was included in the fingerprint screening used when Perigo was going through the hiring process.
Another question that was addressed was Perigo's mother, Anna, and her role in Perigo acquiring the job in 2010.
Anna Perigo is a member of the Board of Trustees for DJUHSD and the statement released Tuesday said that "trustees are not consulted on potential candidates or positions". Also, "they are never asked to divulge any knowledge they may or may not have about candidates".
