BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department received two grants to help keep city streets safe.

BPD received more than $400,000 through the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program.

The grant money will help to fund more DUI and driver's license checkpoints, increase citation penalties for traffic violations, and spread awareness of the state's hands-free cell phone law.
