Cal-Trans' newest campaign, "Protect Every Drop" aims to cut down on pollutants from cars and trucks on our state's roadways by showing some helpful tips each driver can do.
Some helpful tips for drivers:
- Frequently check for fluid leaks.
- Keep tires properly inflated.
- Notify authorities of any major vehicular fluid leaks, especially during car accidents
The consequences of pollutant runoff during heavy rainfall events are that heavy metals, oil, and other materials can seep into rivers and streams. Most drinking water in Kern County is taken from groundwater, which can also be impacted by pollutant runoff through seepage underground.
