The new voter-approved tobacco tax in California will go into effect this weekend.
Starting tomorrow, the tax on a pack of cigarettes will increase by two dollars, to $2.87.
Voters approved Prop 56 last November which levied a two dollar tax on tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.
This is the first tobacco tax increase for California in 18 years.
Health officials said the tax should generate over one billion dollars that can be used toward cancer research and anti-tobacco programs.
