Cat euthanized after contracting rabies from bat

Bakersfield animal control officials are sending out a warning to pet owners about rabid bats in the area.

23ABC news has learned that a cat caught and killed two bats on April 21st on Q St and West Columbus St.

Officials discovered that one of those bats had rabies.

The cat was quarantined and eventually euthanized, at its owner's request.

Kern County Public Health officials are recommending pet owners to have their animals vaccinated against rabies.
