CHP investigate fatal solo collision

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On May 23, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Bakersfield Communications Center received a call of a solo traffic crash on southbound State Route 99 north of 7th Standard Road.

After officers from the California Highway Patrol Bakersfield Area Office responded to the scene and investigated the crash, it was determined to be a solo vehicle collision with one party suffering fatal injuries.

The initial investigation found that the solo male driver of the Honda Accord was traveling southbound on SR-99, north of 7th Standard Road, at a high rate of speed, he lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle traveled onto the west dirt shoulder of southbound SR-99, where it collided into a raised rock embankment with railroad tracks.

The vehicle overturned and the driver was ejected.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol and or drugs are a factor in this collision.

The collision is still under investigation.

Driver's identity to be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
