The Bakersfield Fire Department is trying to figure out what caused a blaze in East Bakersfield early Friday morning.
Around 4 a.m. Friday, BFD and the Kern County Fire Department responded to the area of East California Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive.
Bakersfield Fire officials say nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire.
During the mop-up phase of the incident, Korie Walkley from Bakersfield Fire salvaged an American flag.
"We try to salvage as much as possible... with the water flowing and with us pulling ceilings and checking for extensions I wanted to get this out and get it outside to preserve its greatness," he said.
It's not known what caused the fire.
