After serving a little less than four years in federal prison, former Bakersfield Police detective Patrick Mara is scheduled to be released Tuesday.
Mara was sentenced to five years in federal prison in 2016 "for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine."
Mara, along with ex-BPD detective Damacio Diaz, were sentenced for their roles in a drug ring while members of the police department.
Diaz was sentenced for "federal programs bribery, possession and attempted possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, and making and subscribing a false income tax return."
Both were sentenced to five years in federal prison. Both had their sentences reduced.
In 2018, when 23ABC first learned of the prison reductions of both the Federal Bureau of Prisons did not provide a reason for their early release.
Mara was most recently being held at the Residential Reentry Management facility in Long Beach.
Diaz is scheduled to be released from RRM Sacramento on May 10.
