DELANO, Calif. — Anai Morales, a senior at Wonderful Prep Academy in Delano, has been accepted to Harvard.
The Morales family is celebrating for the second year in a row, after their daughter Xochitl was accepted to Harvard last year.
“I’m in shock. Like I couldn’t believe it happened," said Anai. "I feel like no matter how many A's you get on your exams or your essays, or how many extra curricular activities you do or summer programs you do, nothing will prepare you to get into Harvard.”
Even with a 4.3 GPA and a 33 on her ACT exam, Anai credits her success to more than just academics.
“Harvard starts way before your senior year of high school. It starts when you are super small. You got to have that confidence in yourself in the academic setting," said Anai.
Confidence that she says she has gained from her parents support and the opportunity to tour some of the nation's most elite schools for herself with The Ivy League Project.
"The Ivy League Project is a program that takes kids to the Central Valley who normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to go see these schools on the East Coast,” said Anai.
