The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is joining parents and students at the upcoming Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) board meeting to fight for trees at Voorhies Elementary School in East Bakersfield.

The district is planning on tearing down trees at Voorhies Elementary in order to replace them with solar panels. According to the DHF, those trees are the only shade-producing trees on campus for students. The DHF says that green spaces are important for student learning and attention.

The foundation will be joining parents and students at the BCSD board meeting on Tuesday, October 23. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the BCSD District Office located on 1300 Baker St. in East Bakersfield. The DHF is encouraging supporters to wear green.
