OILDALE, Calif. — A driver drove off a road and struck a power pole in Oildale just after midnight Friday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a white Ford pickup truck on Bristol Avenue when he fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the road and struck the pole.

The power pole was left hanging by the wires.

The vehicle continued into a yard and caused damage to a house. Minor injuries were reported by CHP.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Pacific Gas & Electric is currently investigating the outage caused by the incident, which is impacting 420 customers in Oildale.

According to CHP, PG&E said that power is not expected to be restored until "late afternoon." However, the PG&E outage map lists an estimated restoration time of 4:45 a.m. Friday.

CHP also said that a portion of Day Avenue between Olympic Drive and Charleston Drive will be closed until Friday afternoon. Only residents will be allowed in and out of the area.

This is a developing story. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
