DUI checkpoint raises awareness about the dangers of drinking

Posted

The Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern DUI Task Force will be setting up a checkpoint in the greater Bakersfield area today.

The operation will begin at the intersection of Niles Street at Webster Street at 8am. A second checkpoint will be done at Roberts Lane and Plymouth Avenue until 12 p.m. today.

DUI and driver's license checkpoints are done to help reduce the number of people injured or killed each year in DUI related collisions. The checkpoints are also done to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage sober designated drivers.

You're encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 9-1-1 if you see a suspected impaired driver.
