Early morning Taft fire destroys one home, leaves multiple others damaged

Just before 7:30 AM, a Kern County firefighter reporting for duty in Taft saw a column of black smoke in the 100 block of Olive Ave.

 

Firefighters responded to find one house fully involved in flames and two others beginning to catch fire. Crews worked to protect the exposures and then extinguished the main fire.

 

The fire was knocked down in twenty-one minutes and destroyed one home. A second home and garage sustained major damage, while two additional homes received minor damage. One vehicle sustained minor damage.

 

At least two adults were displaced by the fire, and American Red Cross was requested to assist with temporary accommodations. KCFD investigators were called out to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
