Approximately 10 minutes after 4 p.m. a vehicle was traveling southbound on SR 43 south of Stockdale HWY. Officers say that initials investigations appear that the driver was distracted and appeared to be reaching for something. While he was distracted he allowed his vehicle to drift off the right side of the road, when he went back onto the shoulder he overcorrected back onto the road.
At which he then crossed into the northbound lanes and went head on with a vehicle that was traveling northbound.
CHP said that the driver traveling northbound was declared deceased at the crash.
We will update as more information comes in.
Per the California Highway Patrol traffic website, it appears traffic will be directed to the right hand shoulder to drive around the crash. @23ABCNews
