The father of a 2-year-old was taken into custody in connection with a child abuse investigation.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 200 block of Harding Avenue on Sunday night after the 2-year-old boy was reported as not breathing. 

The boy was taken to a hospital and after an investigation deputies took 27-year-old Izaac Sanchez into custody.

Deputies say the boy suffered "suspicious injuries". 

Sanchez faces charges of felony child endangerment and felony assault on a child under 8 years old. He's scheduled to be in court on Wednesday. He's currently being held on $1 million bail. 

Other children in the home were taken into protective custody. 

The 2-year-old is in critical condition.
