BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Fire investigators are looking for the cause of an early morning fire that destroyed a home in East Bakersfield.
The call came in around 6 a.m. Monday morning of flames coming from a home on Hartnett Court near Rio Bravo Country Club. An elderly man reported the fire and told officials that he thought his wife was inside.
Crews arrived and began an interior search. They didn't find anyone inside. The man's wife made it out safely. Firefighters had to get out as well when the roof collapsed.
The elderly man was taken to the hospital as a precaution. There is no word on the cause and crews also reported they didn't know if there were any smoke detectors in the building due to the extensive damage.
