BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. — The Bakersfield Police Department and the California Highway Patrol will hold a free seat inspection on Saturday at the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot from 9 in the morning to 1 in the afternoon.
A study shows that three out of four child car seats are not installed correctly. Certified child passenger safety technicians will make sure that your child car seat is installed properly helping save your child's life.
Safety technician with BPD, Carina Ortiz, says the number one tip is to make sure the child seat is not loose.
" It doesn't matter what kind of car seat you have but making sure that the car seat is installed tightly enough. That is one of the things that we see, they are not tight enough. The best way to know is that if it moves side to side at the belt path then it's too loose."
More tips include making sure the harness of the seat is even with the child's shoulder, making sure the chest clip is only above the chest and ensuring that the seat is not older than six years.
